What is pelvic prolapse?
There are several different types of prolapse depending on which organ is involved. If the uterus drops into the vaginal canal, it is called a uterine prolapse. If the bladder is dropped into the vagina it is a cystocele. If the rectum is prolapsing into the vagina it is called a rectocele. If the intestinal contents are other abdominal organs are prolapsing it will be called an enterocele.
I leak urine each time I cough or sneeze. what’s wrong with my bladder?
The most common reason is the bladder or bladder neck have become weak and are unable to hold pressure created by coughing and sneezing.
What type of evaluation do I need if my bladder leaks when I cough or sneeze?
A simple in-office evaluation with catheter testing, pelvic physical therapy, urodynamic studies and cystoscopy are required to fully evaluate the bladder or bladder neck.
What type of treatment is used for urinary incontinence?
There are several different types of treatment for urinary incontinence most women will require local estrogen therapy, pelvic physical therapy and if the prolapse or leaking is severe they may require some type of surgical repair.
I’m having difficulty with my bowel movements it feels like a lot of pressure in my vagina. what is the problem?
After childbirth, many times the pelvic floor is very weak and the rectum will prolapse into the vagina causing difficulties with bowel movements or chronic constipation.
How do I treat a rectocele?
A simple outpatient surgical correction will recreate the pelvic support.
